Find and add references with Live Search

Know an author and a year, a few words of a title, or a DOI? Live Search finds the reference as you type and adds it to your list.

Transcript

Live Search is designed for finding a specific reference when you know you're looking for. If you know an author or two and year, that's often enough. If you know that Smith wrote something about bee parasites, Live Search will find it. Type an author and a year, for many authors, like me, that's enough. As you type additional words, the results are filtered. Hitting space initiates a new search using all the words.

Click on the one you want and it's added to your list. You don't have to include author. A title works too, but until you type four words, it'll keep searching for an author. RefRunner Live Search can search 10 databases. Hitting tab while in the search field will move to the next one on the list. You can also click to select the one you want. For books, the Library of Congress is often the most trustworthy.

Got a DOI? Perfect. When there's only one match, press Enter to add it. Every reference you add is formatted from the metadata. Scroll down for the formatted list. Here I'm using APA, but RefRunner supports more than ten thousand styles. Copy it, or download it.

That's Live Search. It's free to try. You don't even need an account.
